Who is a candidate: If you have drooping skin of the upper eyelids that makes you look tired, with puffiness or bags of the lower eyelids, a blepharoplasty may be right for you.
Intended Results: Eyelid surgery removes puffy bags of fat from under your eyes and wrinkled folds of skin hooding your eyelashes on the upper lids. The benefits of surgery should reveal a smooth, firm contour of the upper and /or lower eyelids. Your final results will appear over time, usually within several weeks. It may take up to a year for the incision lines to fully refine.
Procedure: Fat and loose skin are removed from your upper eyelid area through an incision that is hidden within the natural eyelid fold. Treatment of the lower eyelids often requires an incision that is hidden just below your lower lashes or in the conjunctiva. Excess skin, muscle, and fat are removed or adjusted. If your lower eyelid skin is not excessive, a different technique may be used that removes fat through an incision placed inside the lid.
Healing: Postoperatively, expect some swelling that may persist for 10 days or longer. Your vision may be somewhat blurry for a few days. In approximately one week you can wear makeup to conceal any remaining discoloration.
