Title:

Description:

Ear Plastic Surgery

Who is a candidate: An otoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct large or protruding ears. It can be performed as early as age five or six, when the ears are near full development. If your ears protrude abnormally, surgery can reposition them closer to your head.

ProcedureIncisions are usually placed behind your ears, and the supporting cartilage is reshaped to position your ears closer to your head. Subsequent scars will be concealed in the natural skin crease.

Healing: After surgery, the ears are covered with a bulky dressing. The resulting soreness and discomfort are easily controlled with medication. Within a few days, the dressings are removed and the patient will be instructed to wear a dressing while sleeping for several weeks to ensure that the ears heal in their new, corrected position.
